Craig Venter Talks About Synthetic Life

Creating artificial life is something that every fan of science fiction ponders as a terrifying curtain to be parted—terrifying and at the same time exciting for the potential of such science. If you’ve followed this story at all, or if you are only aware of it in passing, you might enjoy hearing more from the scientist himself, Craig Ventor.

The video below is from his talk at TED as he announced the development of the first synthetic cell, the first species to have its own website encoded in its own genetic code, and the first self-replicating species on the planet to “have a computer as a parent.”

  • My top 5 favorite zombie films in no particular order are Dawn of the Dead (1978 original), Fulci’s Zombie, Revenge of the Loving Dead, Dead Snow, and Zombie Holocaust. As you can tell, I’m a fan of Italian horror. Love the classic 80s gut munchers. Day of the Dead (again, the original!) is one of my favorites too.
